After hearing that St. Kate's is grieving another member of our community, I walked to the Butler Center, sat alone by the heater and watched the grey branches shiver in the wind.
I started thinking about the people I miss; the people I love that have passed.
If we're fortunate enough, this time of year is sparkly and merry. We don't think about the many people who have holes in their lives because they've lost an uncle, a son, a friend, a parent, a grandparent etc...
If you're one of those lucky people that doesn't think about grief, sorrow and burdens when it comes to this season of the year, please realize how grateful you are. Love your family and love your friends while you spend time in their presence. You have no idea how lucky you are.
If you're one of those that is saddened by the holiday season, because you know it will be without your loved one, rejoice. Rejoice in comfort knowing they are experiencing the peace we so strive for in this world. Know that they are smiling their biggest smile and laughing their heartiest laugh with tears of joy streaming down their face.
Cry with the family and friends still here, laugh with them and talk about heavy hearts, easier times and hope for the coming year. And then eat. Eat comfort foods in warm homes with smiles that create wrinkles in the corner of your eyes.
But mostly, hold each other. Hug. Hold hands. Sing. Converse and cuddle (even if its with a blanket). It will warm your soul right up.
